Bushfire Management

Bushfire is synonymous with the Australian landscape. While some natural landscapes are sensitive to fire, others rely on fire to maintain community form and ecosystem function. Fire is also a factor for consideration by planners and developers, aiming to protect the built environment.

Bushfire Hazard Assessment

EcoSpatial provides complete bushfire hazard analysis and hazard management planning services. Our inhouse spatial modelling capability allows for the preparation of site specific, scale relevant hazard modelling using the classic methodologies along with more recent models developed by CSIRO.

Bushfire Management Plans

Commonly, the objective of bushfire management planning is considered to be for the protection of built assets and development, however the objective can also be for maintenance of ecological communities.

With an understanding of the role of fire in the Australian landscape, and the elements contributing to fire behaviour, EcoSpatial provides a succinct, effective and achievable operational plan for objective driven bushfire management planning.

BAL Assessment (AS3959)

Bushfire Attack Level assessments are required when constructing or renovating (extending) a dwelling within a Bushfire Prone Area.

EcoSpatial can provide BAL Assessment services using either the Simple Method or Detailed (Appendix B) Method described in AS3959. For complex sites, or architecturally creative designs, we can work with designers and certifiers to achieve compliant alternative solutions that achieve bushfire safety objectives with minimal inhibition of architectural design.
