GIS & Mapping

EcoSpatial provides Geographic Information System (GIS) services using ArcGIS and QGIS software. We can support your project through configuring your GIS, assisting with data management, designing datasets to collect project specific information and produce meaningful and visually effective representations of your data.

Dataset Design and Development

Site specific, high-resolution data is not always available, particularly for small or remote sites. Ecospatial can develop most spatial data for your project at a scale suitable for your site, mapping needs and data integrity requirements (some themes such as geology and ground water involve specialised investigations to create accurate site level data).

Some data products can be developed using analytical desktop techniques, while others require site visitation and on ground assessment (i.e. vegetation mapping and site infrastructure). Attribute data provides significant value to spatial data. Identifying useful attribute data and building spatial datasets that augment other systems within an organisation increases the value of spatial data significantly and can assist in justifying the investment.

Metadata and Data Integrity

All data supplied through or produced by Ecospatial is accompanied by metadata (conforming to the ANZLIC Metadata Guideline) describing the data, its source(s), the development or derivation process, spatial and attribute accuracy and defined purpose of use.

Spatial data prepared by EcoSpatial is provided in a form suitable for provision to regulatory and approval authorities, in support of applications and reports.

Spatial Data Analysis

Many datasets, particularly those describing environmental values, are developed through a detailed process of air photo interpretation, field verification, expert review and ministerial sign off. Datasets that exhibit these characteristics include the Digital Atlas of Australian Soils, Matters of State Environmental Significance (QLD) and the Biodiversity Planning Assessment (QLD). Ecospatial is experienced in interpreting the attributes of these spatial datasets using accompanying metadata, reports and other documentation and can provide a report detailing the analysis results and advising of the implications in the context of the proposed project.

Combinations of datasets can provide inferred tertiary information, by identifying presence/absence, overlap or separation of varying elements held in spatial datasets. This can be used to inform detailed field investigation, both spatially and contextually. We can undertake analysis of multiple data sets to derive inferred information in a spatial context. With a sound scientific background, we can advise on appropriate datasets and methodology to use in the pursuit of specific information.

Map Product Development and Data Visualisation

Ecospatial provides high quality, professional cartography and data visualisation services.

Traditional map products can be provided from A4 and A3 maps to accompany reports and applications to Local, State and Federal authorities, to large format (A1 and A0) wall charts and display products.

Ecospatial can prepare a map package to facilitate environmental approval applications according to the requirements of the Department of Environment and Heritage Protection Guidelines for activities with impacts to Land, Water, Waste, Noise and Air. The inclusion of professional quality mapping improves the appearance of application documentation, especially when published for public comment.

Contemporary data visualisation in a digital online format is a way of sharing your spatial information across your organisation, with staff and colleagues in geographically remote locations, quickly and easily. You can also share your geospatial data with clients in an easily accessible web based format.

Training

EcoSpatial can prepare training material and deliver on site training for your team, improving their understanding of GIS and its application to their job. We can assist experienced users to explore the possibilities and obtain a higher level of functionality from your GIS systems.
